The F1 Crimson Blush is big, bold, beautiful, and blight-resistant. The best tolerance to late blight disease we have ever seen. As well as its ability to shrug off even the worst blight, Crimson Blush will provide great yields of exceptionally fine tasting, large, beefsteak tomatoes. A vigorous grower and reliable cropper it is bred for outdoor growing. Even those gardeners who have had issues with blight in the past will find this variety more reliable.
Grafting onto specific rootstocks of course creates bigger, better, more disease-resistant plants with increased yield. Consequently, we believe, the extra vigour which the plant obtains will provide even better protection to late Blight attack, and the plants will grow away from any infection even more rapidly.
This variety is unique in that it has two resistance genes to Phytopthera infestans (Late Blight), giving it full resistance to all strains of blight currently found in the UK. So if blight spores come into contact with the plant the infection will not spread throughout the plant.
It's been bred using natural methods and has been tested throughout the breeding process using Marker Assisted Selection (MAS).
Please note: With regards to the nature of the blight resistance, plants can still show infection (up to 15-20%) of leaves, stems, etc. without effecting fruit quality or yield. The plants having the resistance to be able to grow away from the attack.
There is a possibility that your plant will include a grafting clip if it does, this is an integral part of the grafting process and that it should be left in place. As the plant grows it will naturally shrug off the clip.
They require daily watering and feeding. The Crimson Blush F1 is a cordon variety - one stem grown by pinching off side-shoots as they appear needs staking and tying in and will require side shoots 'pinching out'.
On Arrival - Remove the plants from the box as soon as they arrive and check that the compost is adequately moist, watering if necessary with tepid water. Leave them on a shaded windowsill or in a greenhouse for a few hours to settle before further handling, ensuring a frost-free non-draughty situation. Potting On - These plants should be potted on as soon as possible, but they will keep quite well for 2–3 days if necessary, provided they are kept in a warm light place and are not allowed to dry out. Use 10cm (4") pots and a good quality moist proprietary compost and set the plants so that the top of the root ball is level with the compost surface. After potting, give a thorough watering, but thereafter take care to avoid overwet conditions, particularly as the young plants become re-established. Grow on in a light, humid position, and maintain an initial temperature of 16–18˚C (60–65˚F).
