How to use Summer Bedding Plants

Whether you’re filling your outside space with your favourite plants, or you’re going to try something new this year, our summer bedding collection includes an array of plants with lingering scents, vibrant colours and a whole range of sizes to choose from.

We’ve taken the guesswork out of getting your garden ready for summer. You’ll find a selection of colour mixes to bring your beds and borders to life, as well as old favourites and inspiring new varieties to keep you one step ahead.

Popular summer bedding plants

Begonias - With varieties suited to bed and borders, hanging baskets and containers, Begonias are a huge family of plants that provide colour throughout the summer to the first frosts. They can tolerate partial shade, which is ideal for gardens where sunny areas are not in abundance.

Geraniums - These plants are ideal for dry gardens and areas that do not receive much rainfall throughout summer. They’re also great for those who like to take a summer holiday, as they’re both heat and drought tolerant! Geraniums produce summer-long flower clusters on long stalks, and are well suited to containers for brightening up a patio.

Petunias - Preferring to grow in full sun, Petunias bring masses of flowers to gardens each summer. Compact varieties are suited to beds and borders, while trailing varieties work really well in summer hanging baskets. They thrive in a fertile and moist, but well-draining soil.

Fuchsia - The beloved Fuchsia produces its iconic ballerina skirt-like flowers for months each summer. It grows well in full sun or partial shade, with shelter from strong winds to protect its delicate blooms. Fuchsias are perfect for hanging baskets and containers, but they are also ideal for informal bedding.

Nemesia - Nemesia is a really fun addition to bedding, but it’s also suited very well to containers. It produces compact but upright stems with two-lipped flowers that are often bi-coloured, which is great for adding instant colour. Nemesia is well suited to an area that gets full sun, and performs best well-drained soil.
