Adenium obesum Red is a stunning and unique variety of Desert Rose, featuring vibrant cerise-red flowers. Known for its distinct shrubby form, this succulent has a thick, swollen stem—its name obesum refers to this "fat" trunk. This swollen stem, which is actually a water-storing root above the surface, allows the plant to thrive in arid desert conditions. The stem is crowned with a cluster of glossy, spoon-shaped, leathery leaves, giving the plant a striking, tree-like appearance that draws comparisons to mythical mandrakes. Even when not in bloom, this attractive plant stands out, making it a favorite for bonsai enthusiasts. After 2-3 years, when it reaches a height of 15-20cm (6-8 inches), Adenium obesum Red rewards you with clusters of beautiful, pink-red, white-throated flowers. These five-petaled, tubular blooms, measuring 2-5cm, are oversized in proportion to the plant, giving the Desert Rose a little tree topped with bold, tropical flowers. Growing Information

Grow in bright light with some shelter from the hottest sun. An average temperature of 10- 25C (50-77F) is ideal. Water at intervals, allowing the compost to dry out between waterings. Never allow the plant to sit in water as this will cause the stem to rot. This Adenium stores water in its stem so it needs surprisingly little water during the growing season. Reduce watering and allow plants to go dormant and remain completely dry through winter. During this period it will drop all its leaves. This is a normal process and fresh new leaves will regrow in spring.House plants should be fed regularly between March and September when they are in active growth.
