Named after iconic European cities, the Peony Capital Collection brings the elegance of peonies to even the smallest spaces. Traditional herbaceous peonies are often unsuitable for pots, but this collection has been specifically bred for successful container cultivation, blooming profusely on more compact plants. The Peony Capital Collection forms neat, bushy mounds of lush, dark green leaves with deeply lobed foliage. Strong stems eliminate the need for staking, and unlike traditional varieties where heavy blooms tend to droop, the flowers are held upright, maintaining their vibrant beauty even in smaller containers. Despite their compact size, these peonies produce large, abundant blooms, ensuring a striking display. These herbaceous varieties are long-lasting in the garden, offering spectacular ruffled blooms from late spring to early summer each year with minimal effort. Perfect for borders or containers, they add structure, glamour, and rich colour to your garden, and make beautiful cut flowers. The Peony Capital Collection includes the following varieties: Peony London – Large, double deep pink flowers. Height: 55cm (22in). Spread: 30cm (12in). Peony Madrid – Single, white cup-shaped blooms with a central creamy-white ruff. Height: 75cm (30in). Spread: 40cm (16in). Peony Rome – Large, double sugar-pink flowers. Height: 60cm (24in). Spread: 40cm (16in). Peony Dublin – Large, single white cup-shaped blooms with a central yellow ruff. Height: 50cm (20in). Spread: 30cm (12in). Peony Athens – Large, bright pink, semi-double flowers. Height: 75cm (29in). Spread: 40cm (16in).

Growing Information

Grow peonies in a sunny or semi shaded position. They prefer a well drained, rich fertile soil. This is best achieved by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or compost to the soil prior to planting, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Plant herbaceous peonies at a depth of around 5cm (2") below the soil surface. Planting too deeply may delay flowering.

These bareroot peonies are lifted from the nursery field when dormant and sent to you in late autumn or spring for planting. They often look dead on arrival, but they are just resting in the dormant period and will establish quickly for a strong start in the garden come spring. Set out in prepared soil in holes wide enough and deep enough to lay out the roots. The crown should be planted no more than 2.5–5cm below the surface. Tread down the planting soil to knock out air pockets. Water well to settle. Apply a mulch to protect roots from cold temperatures. New growth will appear in spring. If conditions prevent immediate planting, set roughly into loose soil or a pot of compost (‘heeling in’) to protect the roots.

Live Plants

Suttons strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.

Non Standard Deliveries

Unfortunately like many companies in our industry we are currently only able to supply orders to UK based customers, excluding those in Northern Ireland. We are committed to finding a way that we can resume or normal services again as soon as possible. Please accept our apologies for any inconvience caused.

Prices include VAT where applicable.

We reserve the right to contact you and advise an additional charge where necessary and are happy to quote for carriage of specific products to more remote areas. Some items may not be available to all areas.

We reserve the right to revise any carriage charges in the event of carrier price increase or other unforeseen circumstances. We will always advise of the carriage charge before payment is taken.

All Suttons products should reach you in perfect condition, just as they left us. If you are dissatisfied in any way with their condition on arrival, please let us know within 14 days. We are only liable for the cost of the goods as quoted on the website plus the cost of delivery if the goods are faulty.

Unlike many companies, we publish all of our reviews - good or bad - to give you, the customer, total transparency and peace of mind.
