Sow these fast-growing carrots at 14-day intervals throughout spring and early summer for an ongoing supply. Carrot 'Amsterdam Forcing 3' is a fast-maturing variety. It is perfect for growing early crops under cloches or cold frames. The high-quality, small cylindrical roots can be cultivated at finger size. These yield dark orange-red carrots with a sweet flavour and almost no core. Height: 30cm (12"). Spread: 15cm (6"). Companion planting: Try growing carrots with spring onions, leeks, and mint, whose aromatic leaves deter carrot root fly.

Growing Information

Grow Toona in a sheltered position in full sun. Toona enjoys a well drained, rich, fertile soil.

Sowing Information

Early maturing varieties:
Early varieties of carrot seed can be sown under cloches in March, or outdoors from April to July.
Maincrop varieties:
Should be sown outdoors from April to June.
Forcing varieties:
Some varieties are suitable for forcing to produce an early crop. These can be sown under glass from November to February.

Direct sow carrot seed outdoors, in a weed free, sunny position in fertile, light, well drained soil. Carrots dislike freshly manured soils so seed beds are best prepared in autumn, well in advance of spring sowings.

Sow carrot seeds thinly at a depth of 1cm (½in) in drills 30cm (12") apart. Germination will take 10 to 20 days. When large enough to handle, thin out the seedlings within each row to 5cm (2") apart. Where space is limited, growing carrots in containers will also produce a worthwhile crop.

While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.

Non Standard Deliveries

Unfortunately like many companies in our industry we are currently only able to supply orders to UK based customers, excluding those in Northern Ireland. We are committed to finding a way that we can resume or normal services again as soon as possible. Please accept our apologies for any inconvience caused.

We reserve the right to contact you and advise an additional charge where necessary and are happy to quote for carriage of specific products to more remote areas. Some items may not be available to all areas.
