Our Windowsill Mushroom Kits will allow anyone to grow White Button mushrooms from their very own windowsill. Handfuls of these delicious mushrooms will be just clutches away from your favourite dish.
White Button mushrooms are a popular white variety from the mushroom family. These button mushrooms hold their flavour and adapt perfectly to any dish. White Button mushrooms are completely versatile when added as a pizza topping, marinated and grilled.
Mushrooms are tasty, low in calories, high in protein and a great source of fibre especially for those on plant-based diets. They provide you with vital vitamins including vitamin B, selenium, potassium and copper. With our handy kits, you’ll soon have this delicious and health beneficial vegetable at just the fraction of the cost.
Whether you’re a full-time gardener or beginner, this handy kit includes a base tray, lid, and pre spawned substrate and easy to follow instructions.
Simply keep them moist and out of direct sunlight and your first crop should be ready to pick in a matter of weeks, plus you can expect at least another 2 pickings after that (See full instructions in Growing Info below).
These kits need to be started on receipt and are unsuitable for storage.
Dimensions:
3 Litre = 17.5cm (7") x 27.5cm (11") x 8cm (3½") depth.
7.5 Litre = 32cm x 26cm x 12.5cm
Growing Instructions:
This kit is designed for indoor growing. Choose a clean area away from direct heat sources and draughts. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent overheating. Mushrooms prefer indirect, filtered light.
Step 1. Prepare the compost
• Remove the white bag containing the top soil from the packaging and store it separately in a cool place, ideally around 15°C (59°F).
• Place the transparent lid on the growing tray and position the kit at 20-25°C (68-77°F) for around 4 days.
• During this time the compost will become covered with fuzzy, white fungal threads called mycelium.
Except for spraying, leave the lid on the growing container throughout the entire growing process.
Step 2. Add the top soil
• Once the compost is fully overgrown with white mycelium, open the white bag of top soil. Spread it evenly and very loosely over the compost until it is completely covered.
• Do not press down on the top soil.
• Now pull 4 or 5 strands of straw from the compost through the soil in 6 places.
• Keep the lid closed and store the kit at 20-25°C (68-77°F) for 5 to 8 days.
• Lightly mist the top soil once a day for 5 days.
• During this stage, the mycelium will grow up through the soil to the surface.
Step 3. Encourage mushroom formation
• When white fluff is visible on the surface, move the kit to a cooler spot at 16-17°C (61-63°F).
• Spray lightly every 2 to 3 days.
• Small, dense clusters called pin heads will form, first around the edges, then across the centre.
Step 4. Harvest
• Most pin heads will grow into full sized mushrooms.
• To harvest, hold the mushroom between two fingertips and twist carefully. Do not pull.
Please note: mushrooms do not grow at the same rate, so leave any that are not yet ready and continue spraying lightly until all are harvested.
Step 5. Further harvests
• Once all mushrooms have been harvested, moisten the top soil with water until it feels wet but not soggy.
• Allow the kit to rest for 5 to 6 days at 20-25°C (68-77°F), then repeat from step 3 for another flush.

Live Plants
Suttons strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.
Non Standard Deliveries
Unfortunately like many companies in our industry we are currently only able to supply orders to UK based customers, excluding those in Northern Ireland. We are committed to finding a way that we can resume or normal services again as soon as possible. Please accept our apologies for any inconvience caused.
Prices include VAT where applicable.
We reserve the right to contact you and advise an additional charge where necessary and are happy to quote for carriage of specific products to more remote areas. Some items may not be available to all areas.
We reserve the right to revise any carriage charges in the event of carrier price increase or other unforeseen circumstances. We will always advise of the carriage charge before payment is taken.
Large Non-standard items may incur a higher, lorry delivery charge. Charges will be calculated at checkout, but an example of the lorry charges are listed below.
