A dwarf evergreen smothered with spring flowers that fill the air with a strong fragrance - Magnolia laevifolia ‘Vanilla Pearls’ is a choice specimen for small gardens. A bushy, branching shrub clothed in waxy, dark green foliage, from March to April it bears a profusion of strongly fragrant, creamy-white flowers with butter-yellow stamens. In good conditions, a second light flush follows in midsummer. The perfumed flowers create a buzz with pollinators looking for early food sources.

Plant this dwarf, evergreen Magnolia in containers framing a doorway, or in a wall side border where you can inhale its intoxicating vanilla perfume. Reaching only around 70cm high, Magnolia laevifolia ‘Vanilla Pearls’ is perfect for small gardens where other varieties would be unsuitable. It can even be planted as a low, fragrant hedge. Height and Spread: 70cm-100cm (27-39in).

Growing Information

Plant magnolias in a sunny or semi shaded position with protection from cold winds and hard spring frosts. Magnolias prefer a rich, moist, well drained, acid to neutral soil. Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil prior to planting, mixing it thoroughly and deeply. Magnolia plants establish quicker when their roots are shaded. Following planting, apply a mulch of rotted bark chips, manure or garden compost, taking care not to mound it around the stem of the plant.

While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.

Unfortunately like many companies in our industry we are currently only able to supply orders to UK based customers, excluding those in Northern Ireland.
