Raspberry 'Black Polka' is a striking new variety of purple raspberry with an impressive dual-cropping habit. Fruiting on primocanes, it delivers a generous autumn harvest, and with careful pruning, you can also enjoy an earlier crop in summer. This vigorous grower sends up thorny new shoots and rewards with clusters of glossy, dark purple fruits—almost black in colour—with a rich, sweet flavour and high nutritional value.

A good candidate for double cropping, ‘Black Polka’ can be pruned to provide two harvests - the first harvest starting around mid-June on biennial canes, followed by a second flush from the end of August on the current year’s canes.

Well-suited to gardens and allotments, Raspberry 'Black Polka' stands out not only for its unique colour and cropping potential but also for its resilience against common raspberry pests and diseases. A smart choice for anyone seeking an extended berry season and standout fruit. Ultimate height: 150cm (59in). Ultimate spread: 50cm (20in).

Growing Information

Grow raspberry plants in a sunny position in any well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. The stems of summer fruiting raspberries will require support. Before planting, prepare a framework of wires stretched horizontally between two sturdy 1.8m (6’) posts. Autumn fruiting varieties will not require supports.

Plant raspberry canes in a row against the wire supports, allowing a distance of 60cm (24”) between plants. Water well.

Summer fruiting raspberries fruit on the previous season’s growth. Leave unpruned after planting. This cane will go on to produce fruit next summer, at the same time, new shoots will grow from the roots. Once fruit has been picked the original cane should be removed and the new shoots left to grow to produce fruit the following year. Autumn fruiting canes should be pruned to 15cm (6”) above ground level immediately after planting to encourage more shoots to be produced.

While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.

Unfortunately like many companies in our industry we are currently only able to supply orders to UK based customers, excluding those in Northern Ireland.
