This hardy annual needs to be sown between March and June outdoors for flowering from June to September. They're also edible and flower at the perfect time to be a key ingredient in your summer salads! Here's some help choosing the best variety for you:
Nasturtiums are highly attractive to pollinators due to their nectar-rich blooms and long flowering season. For attracting bees and other beneficial insects, Nasturtium ‘Dayglow Mix’ or ‘Jewel Mix’ are excellent choices.
For pots, containers, or window boxes, Nasturtium ‘Little Gem Mix’ is an ideal choice, having been bred to keep a bushy, compact habit – it’s classified as a dwarf variety.
All Nasturtium varieties are edible. For a mild, peppery flavour to pep up salads, ‘Peach Melba’ and Nasturtium ‘Milkmaid’ are popular options.
For a vigorous, trailing habit that works well as ground cover or cascading from hanging baskets, ‘Jewel of Africa Mix’ and ‘Flower Carpet Dayglow Mix’ are great selections.
For distinct and unusual colours, choose Nasturtiums ‘Baby Rose’, ‘Baby Yellow’, or ’Purple Emperor’.
