Isoplexis Plant - Bella

Be one of the first to grow this exotic Canary Island Foxglove.

The Isoplexis have been getting a lot more coverage in recent years thanks to some new hybrids. However, brand new Isoplexis 'Bella' is pure Canary Island Foxglove through and through, and you'll be soon salivating over its tropical looks!

After sowing out the first and second populations from the native species, plants with garden-worthy traits were selected. After a few years, 'Bella' was found; a handsome plant with a voluptuous sub-shrub shape, profuse flowering, bright colours and drought tolerance. In the wild this "psychedelic foxglove" favours the edge of the forest, so when planted into the garden they enjoy sun as well as shade.

The three foot tall plants are shaped like a candelabra, with tremendous garden presence, even when not in flower. You'll be drooling at the sunset shades of the flowers, not to mention the ruby glow of the stems. A fine hardy border plant or a versatile patio shrub, the choice is yours!

Flowers June-November. Height 80-90cm (32-36"); spread 50-60cm (20-24"). Hardy to -5C.

Looking after your Isoplexis Plant

Plant in moist well drained soil, in a sunny or partially shaded spot that will have some shelter from cold winds. Your Isoplexis will not flourish in wet soil. Although a Mediterranean plant, the Isoplexis will stand temperatures down to -5C. For temperatures lower than -5C these plants will need to have some fleece or mulch protection.

Isoplexis is easy to grow and requires little care. You can also cut a couple Isoplexis flower stems and place them in a vase.

Although a Mediterranean plant, the Isoplexis will stand temperatures down to -5C. For temperatures lower than -5C these plants will need to have some fleece or mulch protection. Alternatively, grow in pots and brought inside during these colder spells and kept in a light space and kept moist. Young plants are slightly bushy but grow into a compact (60-90cm) plant with strong flower spikes. Once flowered the spikes can be cut back to encourage more growth.
