For best results, store seeds in a fridge for 2 weeks before sowing. Sow into gritty, free-draining compost in small pots and keep in a shady cold frame throughout the winter as seeds need a long spell of cold weather to germinate. When seedlings are large enough to handle, pot up into 15cm pots being careful not to disturb the plant's roots and grow on in a sunny/shaded spot with protection from the midday sun. Provide protection from slugs and snails as soon as seeds germinate.
Ideal for beds and borders, patio pots and containers, rockeries, raised beds. Prefers partial shade. As the plant grows, cut back the stem to half its length on a regular basis to keep the plant compact and producing leaves. For the most fragrant leaves, always harvest in the morning and never take more than half of the leaves from each plant in one go.
