Sow in pots or trays on a windowsill or in a greenhouse using a good quality compost. Cover seeds with 4cm (1½") compost. Germination 7-14 days. Grow on, planting outside or protecting with cloches until frost risk has passed, 15cm (6") between plants.Alternatively, sow direct into prepared, warm, moist soil at a depth of 5cm (2"), thinning as necessary between plants. Allow 60cm (24") between rows. Grows best in rich, well-prepared soil in a sunny position. Pick regularly and keep well watered during dry weather. For use as Edamame beans, harvest between 45-60 days when the green seeds are plump and tender. Drying for use as soya beans will take around 100 days. Lift whole plants and hang upside down in an airy garage or greenhouse to dry. Shell the beans and store in a cool place. N.B. Edamame beans must always be cooked and never eaten raw. Sowing - Cropping: 9-12 weeks.
