One of the most popular Cornish daffodils to come out of Cornish soil is tete a tete daffodil, introduced by Alec Gray in the first half of the 20th century. A robust miniature cornish daffodil in bright yellow, a reliable choice for any gardener.

As far back as the late 1800s, daffodil flowers were being transported by train from Penzance to London, such was the demand for this spring beauty. Many breeders named daffodils after Cornish places and in the 1950s, the Rosewarne Experimental Horticulture Station in Cornwall explored aspects of daffodil growing and introduced new varieties.

In fact, Cornwall is responsible today for over 60% of the UK's daffodil bulb production, making it a true expert in its field.

'Cornish Chuckles' daffodil is a good place to start and will certainly raise a smile. This yellow dwarf daffodil has multiple flowers per stem and has been awarded an RHS Award of Garden Merit. 'Pencrebar' is a sweetly scented double miniature daffodil, which looks gorgeous in pots by an entrance door.

Or for a typical yellow flower trumpet, with the advantage of flowering very early in January and February, opt for 'Treglisson' and you won't be disappointed.

There are 13 different divisions of daffodils from large cup to doubles, and the division 7 jonquils offer exquisite scent. 'Rosemoor Gold' is a fine example, created for the bicentenary of the RHS, sweetly celebrating their success. Cornish daffodils also come in colours other than yellow and for serene white beauty, 'Niveth' is sophisticated and delightfully fragranced.

How to grow Cornish Daffodils?
