Kale is one of the most reliable, nutritious winter vegetables. It can withstand adverse weather conditions, producing a good crop of delicious and healthy young foliage and sideshoots in winter and spring.
Kale seeds need to be sown outdoors at a depth of 13mm between April and May. Germination takes 10 to 20 days, and once the kale plants are big enough to handle they can be transplanted leaving 60cm between each plant.
This hardy plant is an ideal ingredient to lightly steam or stir-fry.
