Carrot Seeds - Samurai

Daucus carota sativus

A red-skinned Japanese carrot with sweet pink inner flesh which holds its colour well after cooking. Sweeter flavour than orange carrots due to its larger sugary core. Sow thinly direct into finely raked, moist, warm weed-free soil at a depth of 13mm (½"). Germination 15-20 days. Allow 30cm (12") between rows or scatter across raised beds. Thin gradually to a final spacing of 5-7.5cm (2-3") between plants. Pull small for salad use. Sow under cloches for early roots. Carrots grow best in a sunny position in well-cultivated soil which has not recently been manured. Sowing to Cropping: 12-16 weeks.

Ideal for beds and borders, patio pots and containers. Grows well in sun or shade. HEALTH BENEFITS: Very high in vitamin A. A good choice to get kids eating veg. CULINERY TIPS: Available nutrients actually increase with cooking - as long as not over-cooked.
