Attractive red leaves (which deepen in colour in cool weather) with a contrasting green underside, which can be grown as either a babyleaf for use in stir-fries, or full size heads for use as a tasty cooked vegetable.

SMALL SPACES made easy! Are you feeling left behind by the “grow-your-own” revolution because you live in a gardenless apartment or have a postage-stamp-sized patio? Don’t worry: Anyone with a sunny windowsill, patio, or balcony can cultivate home-grown vegetables. In fact, choosing plants that are nutritious, delicious, and attractive is the ultimate way to maximise limited space. We’ve tried and tested these varieties suitable for small spaces and know they’ll succeed, but that’s not to say there aren’t other vegetable seeds that you could try!

Sow thinly direct into finely raked, warm, moist soil at a depth of 13mm (½") in rows 30cm (12") apart. Germination 6-10 days. Thin seedlings to 2.5cm (1") for picking as baby leaf, or to 15cm (6") between plants for growing to full maturity. Not recommended for transplanting. Grows best in a sunny position in rich, well prepared soil. Water freely during spells of dry weather. Sowing to Cropping: 30 days for babyleaf.

Ideal for small spaces - pots and baskets, windowsills, raised beds and containers. HEALTH BENEFITS: One of the main ingredients of Chow Mein. Centre leaves are excellent used raw in salads and outer leaves can be used for frying or lightly braised.

Rating:
Very easy to grow. Lovely colour. Had a good few salads from them. Unfortunately some little beetles agreed & had a good chomp.
