A fabulous wildflower that is unfortunately quietly disappearing from our countryside’s due to agricultural intensification.
Steeped in history, Celtic Druid folklore and ancient medicinal preparations, the Cowslip featured 8 times in Shakespeare's plays and during the Middle-Ages was also known by the name of St. Peter's herb.
In modern day, as well as being a cottage garden favourite, they are also used in herbal tea preparations which purport to have relaxing and calming effects. Many herbalists will also use Cowslip as a key ingredient in skin cleaning lotions to treat blemishes and pimples.
Cousin of the primrose, this fantastic flower produces pretty clusters of bright yellow, delicately scented flowers above rosettes of soft green leaves. Blessed with early flowering, the cowslip will fill your garden with pockets of sunshine yellow as early as March and right through to May.
