SUTTONS NEW UK EXCLUSIVE! Leontopodium alpinum Blossom of Snow is a newly introduced form of the popular and famous perennial alpine plant, the Edelweiss. Perfect for areas with cool summers, this variety is perfect for a well-drained mixed or perennial border, a rockery or as a striking focal point in a pot on the patio. Producing an abundance of large, pure white star-shaped flowers during early summer that sit above the low clumps of silvery green foliage, the plants become completely smothered in bloom, repeat flowering in early autumn.
With larger and more showy flowers than other Edelweiss varieties, the long, straight stiff stems make this ideal for cutting and using in floral arrangements around the home where the truly amazing intricate detail of the flowers can be best enjoyed.
Native to the alps and a symbol of courage, Edelweiss Blossom of Snow is hardy down to -30°C, drought tolerant once established and very easy to grow. Height 10-20cm (4-8"); spread 20-30cm (8-12"). Supplied in a 9cm pot.
DID YOU KNOW? Linked to the musical “The Sound of Music” and named in line with this, it’s a miracle that Edelweiss Blossom of Snow exists! Sound of Music film fans went en masse to the mountains and picked the Edelweiss flowers almost to the point of extinction…. fortunately it has since become a protected species! Flowers July-September.
