Flower of the Hour Seeds
Code: 141118
Sowing Time January-March
Flower / Fruit from July-September
Large blooms of pale yellow
Traditionally, the large exquisite creamy yellow blooms with their chocolate-maroon centres bloomed for an hour in the mornings. This variety, thanks to modern breeding, flowers longer. Attractive ‘bladder-like’ seed capsules follow the flowers. Originating in Africa this plant has been said to "work magic on gardener's hearts", as once grown always desired!
Culture: Soak the seeds in water, when they sink they are ready for sowing. Sow into a tray of moist, firm, quality compost, pressing gently into the surface. Place in a polythene bag, in a warm, dark place at around 13-16°C (55-61°F) until germination occurs. At the first sign of germination (15-30 days), remove the bag and maintain a temperature of 15°C (60°F). Grow on in good light keeping the compost moist. Transplant the seedlings, when large enough to handle, into 9cm (3½") pots of compost and grow on in good light, watering as required. Plant out late May/June, one plant per 45cm (16") container or into a sunny border at the same spacing. Pinching out the central growing tip when 20cm (8") high will result in bushier plants.
Average Growing Height: 81-90CM
