A pea with a mild asparagus flavour! This ground-cover pea originates in the Mediterranean. It has been grown in the United Kingdom since the 16th century for its pretty red flowers and edible fluted pods, which have a mild asparagus flavour. Culture: Sow thinly into finely raked, warm, moist, weed-free soil, 1cm (½") deep, making several sowings for succession, in rows 30cm (12") apart. Keep soil moist until seedlings are established. Thin plants to 30cm (12") apart in the row. Plants are bushy in habit and do not require support. Pods 2cm (1") long or less have the best flavour, do not use big pods.
