Nasturtium seeds come in three main varieties; trailing, low growing and climbing. The trailing variety is a superb mixer plant. The low growing variety is perfect for your patio or as a bedding plant. The climbing variety is excellent to cover up walls, fences or trellises. This hardy annual needs to be sown between March and June outdoors for flowering throughout June to September. These flowers are also edible and will flower in perfect time to be a key ingredient to your summer salads!
Nasturtium seeds should germinate within 10 to 14 days. As the seedlings develop thin them in stages to achieve the final spacing of 25cm apart. Alternatively for hanging baskets and containers, sow in a greenhouse or on a windowsill and acclimatise to conditions before planting outside.
